COMMENCE DATE: SEPTEMBER 8TH 2022
VENUE: Online (VIA ZOOM)
TIME: 6:15 PM

The benefits of Yin Yoga go far beyond the physical, it delves deep into the mental, emotional and energetic layers of who we are as human beings. Attention and intention are two main components of a successful practice, it’s not what we do, it’s how we do it.

Yin is a slow, cooling, quiet, practice where we hold postures for several minutes at a time.  Less is more when it comes to yin. That does not necessarily mean easy and you won’t feel it. It’s an actively deceptive practice and when you exit from a long-held pose you feel exactly what has been happening. Time is the magic ingredient. You might even have to moan like a 120year old person which would actually be a good sign. It can be a challenge for many students but adaptations and props can be used accordingly and when required.

Autumn is the season of Vata and the organs affected are the lungs and large intestines. Yin Yoga works on the meridians (energy channels) in the body. This is the study of acupuncture another superb way of freeing up the energy in the body.  Even though our intention for this term may be the lungs and the large intestines everything else is being affected as everything is connected so you are not missing out.

When Thursday comes around each week, most of us need a moment to ourselves, some space and time for slowing down, restoring what is spent during the week, and feeling fresh going into the weekend. If you are an athlete, or a fast-paced active strong person, or do a lot of strengthening and conditioning this practice is going to be a fabulous counter practice for you and your health. The yin with the yang, we need both. Thankfully people are now realising it’s not all about go, go, go, push, push, push, pound, pound, pound and it’s not before time. Different phases of our lives require different things, everything is changing, and being adaptable is very important. This practice brings rest and renewal to bring balance to our lives, our energy, and our hormonal system. If we don’t take ample deep rest, we cannot heal, we cannot see our way forward, it really is as simple as that. I look forward to yinning with you very soon.
