Yin Yoga
5-WEEK COURSE
COMMENCING: Monday, Sept. 7th
VENUE: THE WATERSHED, KILKENNY
TIME: 7 PM to 8:15 PM
Yin teaches us to get quiet, it teaches us about load, and its capacity to change the fascial body. Yin teaches us to listen in stillness, and yin teaches us to stay for a while even when what we are experiencing is vulnerable and uncomfortable.
Poses/shapes are held for several minutes, following 3 principles: feeling at the edge, becoming still, and staying for time (the magic ingredient). Traditional Chinese medicine and Yin are directly related. The focus is on the energy lines, releasing stagnation, which allows for change. After a yin practice we can sometimes feel a transformational shift in mood, energy, and overall well-being.
The fascial body holds our life story, therefore it's not uncommon to feel emotional during or after class. The phase after the held posture is called "rebound," which can be known as the second stage of the practice, and is as important as the posture, so that we can process what just happened. At the end of a session, the pose of Savasana integrates and absorbs our efforts; it is here that we try to drop deeply inward, listening, learning, restoring, landiing in this very healing, liminal space.
